Phoebe Snow – Phoebe Snow (Shelter SR 2109)
Phoebe Snow is out of those singer-songwriter-guitarists who has managed to emerge from nowhere with a fresh and virtually stunning first album. The often-heard “Let the Good Times Roll” is only a small representation of the album’s varied selection of material. Whether handling folk, blues or beat, Miss Snow reaches and maintains a degree of subtle polish easily ranking her with such talents as Bonnie Raitt and Joni Mitchell. On “Poetry Man,” she deftly handles the difficult vocal ropes with a veteran’s skill. This all may seem like just another rave review but then Phoebe Snow is the type of album that makes a critic wish for a new set of superlatives.
