Joni Mitchell – Dreamland Liner Notes

Comments Off

Cameron’s chronicles Joni’s Mitchell in his liner notes for her greatest hits/compilation, Dreamland, released in September 2004. It’s part biography and a part musical journey for this under appreciated artist. More liner notes will be added soon including Jackson Browne’s Running on Empty, David Bowie’s Station to Station and The Very Best of the Eagles.

2 Exclusive Zoo Photos From Cameron

Comments Off

Cameron Crowe's photo: Asked her about Cameron sent over these two exclusive photos that we he took on the set of We Bought a Zoo. Please say hello to Crystal, the capuchin monkey (who’s gotten more press lately than most folks out there) and John Michael Higgins taking a break in-between set-ups. As always, you can read Cameron’s thoughts on each pic, by simply clicking on the picture. I’ve seen Cameron’s pictures reported on other sites as movie stills. This is not the case, these are pictures that Cameron personally took during the filming of Zoo.

Phoebe Snow – July 17, 1950 – April 26, 2011

Comments Off

In honor of singer/songwriter Phoebe Snow’s passing last week, I thought it it would be a great time to share Cameron’s review of her debut self-titled album from the December 22, 1974 edition of the L.A. Times. Phoebe burst onto the scene that year and by 1975, had a Top 5 hit with “Poetry Man”, along with a platinum selling album. You can even tell by Cameron’s short review that he was quite fond of her album and thought she was a real talent.

In late 1975, Phoebe’s career took a backseat to caring for her daughter, Valerie Rose Laub, born with severe brain damage. While Phoebe continued to record throughout the years, her greatest achievement was her daughter. Unfortunately, she lost her daughter in 2007.

If you haven’t checked out her music, you really should. She was a gifted musician and will be missed.

Fast Times Blu-ray On The Horizon

Comments Off

It seems that the Fast Times at Ridgemont High Blu-ray may finally be seeing the light of day. A UK release is scheduled for July 25th by Universal. The UK cover art is pictured above (funny how they are focusing on Spicoli and his buds with specific mentions of Nic Cage and Anthony Edwards). Expect Universal to also release the Blu-ray in North America and other countries this summer.

I don’t expect any new extras, but it will be great to see Fast Times in “high” definition 🙂 I thought I would be the first (of many) to do the corny “high” joke…

Stay tuned for contining coverage of the Fast Times Blu.

How about the first glimpse of the new Cameron Crowe documentary Pearl Jam Twenty?! This was posted today over at the official Pearl Jam site. The clip shows the band (and the late Alice in Chains lead singer, Layne Staley) discuss their original name Mookie Blaylock. Enjoy!

Kansas 1977-78 Tour Book

Comments Off

I recently stumbled across this 1977/78 Tour program for the rock band Kansas. The 28 page souvenir includes a huge selection of Neal Preston photos and a lengthy essay by Cameron. The main focus of the essay (through the many quotes from the band) is that they did it “their way”. Cameron also covers the band’s history and early days and I enjoyed how each section of the essay focused on a different band member (along with pics of their family, hobbies, etc.). I hope you like it. I’ve also included a few additional pics of the program below.

Led Zeppelin Flashback

Comments Off

Cameron with Jimmy Page

I thought today would be a great day to share some Led Zeppelin. First up is a piece entitled I Love Led Zeppelin that Cameron did for UK’s The Telegraph back in 2007 to honor the Zeppelin reunion. The article surrounds a 1972 encounter that the band had with The King and is new to the Journalism section. Enjoy!

It might also be a good time to point out the Rolling Stone cover story that Cameron did in 1975, along with the small piece on Presence and the mysterious object on the cover of the LP from summer 1976. There’s also the 1973 Circus magazine article that focuses on the band’s non-stop touring.

Oh yeah, and don’t forget his liner notes for the Zeppelin box set and his introduction on the Led Zeppelin Portraits book by longtime friend Neal Preston. Whew! That should keep you busy for awhile getting your fix, but more Zeppelin articles/interviews are coming.
