INT. BLACK ANGUS – NIGHT

McCabe sits at the head of a table in this wood-burnish steakhouse.
We see the backs of his family’s heads. No one’s face. Push in on
McCabe, preoccupied. Here he is, his family . . . and he’s not
comfortable at all. He rubs at the wooden table. He’s worried.
Hanging from the ceiling is a television playing Sports Center,
and then a commercial.   

On television: the smoothly compelling ad for Life Extension.
The story of Benny the Dog. And the final solution – the logo reading
‘L.E.’

Push in on McCabe. He knows. The sounds of his family disappear.
McCabe is completely centered. Thoughts are coming together. The
threads begin to tie.

DAVID’S CELL – DAY

David bolts upright, out of a dream. The noise has awakened him. McCabe stands before him.

MCCABE

I have a court order. It’s good for two hours. Get dressed.
I’m getting you out of here.

PRISONER

Daddy’s boy!

Someone spits. McCabe stands tall, moving forward, like Atticus Finch
with Tom Robinson. 

INT. CAR – DAY

McCabe watches David closely. Aaron the Guard turns to look at David behind the glass partition that separates them. David looks out the window at the world he’s missed.

AARON

(through partition)

I’m armed, and my job is to use the weapon if you try
anything stupid. And I hope you do.

DAVID

I got it. You’ll kill me. I got it.
